So here’s where I share all my deep dark secrets. KIDDING.
Here’s the long version of my bio. (You can find the short one on mimicross.com.)
I was born in Toronto, Canada and grew up in New Jersey where I live across the street from the beach, about a twenty minutes from my musical home, Asbury Park. I hold an MA from NYU’s School of Education, Health, Nursing, and Arts Professions and a Bachelor of Music from Ithaca College and I’ve done a lot of performing and worked briefly in the music industry. I’ve released two independent CDs that were a lot of fun to make, but now I’m writing novels. My debut novel Before Goodbye was published by Skyscape in January of 2016, and my second novel, Shining Sea released in May. I’m represented by the incredibly articulate Danielle Burby of HSG Agency.
Although I haven’t played too many gigs since my son was born, over the course of my musical career I’ve shared the bill with artists such as Sting, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Lauryn Hill, Chris Whitley, Jill Sobule, Mae Moore, Loudon Wainwright, Peter Himmelman, and Nicole Atkins. More than anything I enjoy playing music to benefit others. I’ve played shows with lots of other New Jersey musicians including Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi to raise funds for various charities.
The Yoga Connection: I’ve been practicing yoga on and off since I was 12 and received my 200-hour teaching certificate from Kripalu, the largest facility for yoga and health in the country where I lived for a month during my yoga teacher training. I’ve lead classes and private sessions for over fifteen years, and in 2012 Kripalu released an instrumental version of my song 2 Clay Feet on Svadharma, a CD to benefit their Teaching for Diversity program.
Several years ago I created Body of Writing, a practice that adds an additional dimension to the body, mind, spirit discipline of yoga: story. Body of Writing is designed to help participants discover and deepen their creativity and unlock their stories using specific yoga postures, breath work, and visualization combined with powerful writing exercises.
History of this site:
Sirenstories was originally a project created to help singer songwriters get their music heard.
Although the focus was on singer songwriters, Sirenstories was also open to composers of instrumental tracks, as long as the piece submitted is program music, intended to evoke images or convey an impression of events.
I posted mostly indie songs—plus information about the writer—as often as I could. Every once in a while I posted about a book or a book trailer—especially if music was central to the trailer—or a random topic.
I asked songwriters to submit tracks for consideration here.
My post of November 20th, 2016 explains the move away from this format, but I hope to continue posting about music, books, and my own projects for a very long time.
Thanks for being here.
